NOTE: Libraries are either institutions of the State or of a wealthy private interest. Their internal power structures are almost always hierarchical, elitist, and anti-democratic. Their logic is that of a centralizing bureaucracy. They have become at bottom a stopgap measure preventing the total collapse of communities too weakened by liberal capitalism to produce a culture of authentic collaboration and learning. This makes "Radical Librarianship" as contradictory as a Revolutionary Party. I would sincerely regret this section's title but for the fact that I've been a library worker for a long time and believe some kind of transformation is possible. Whatever the case, all administrators are bastards. Go outside. Form a union.
